Behind the result - No mystery in the method
The vet-target route uses only the total daily kcal target you enter. The estimate route is limited to vet-confirmed healthy, fully grown, appropriate-weight adult dogs or cats with a selected reproductive status. Weight in kg = pounds × 0.45359237 where needed. Resting energy requirement RER = 70 × kg^0.75. Adult maintenance estimate = RER × factor range: neutered dog 1.4–1.6, intact dog 1.6–1.8, neutered cat 1.2–1.4, intact cat 1.4–1.6. These AAHA ranges are broad starting estimates, not individualized targets; actual needs vary. The estimate route does not provide plans for young, senior, pregnant/nursing, underweight/overweight, working, ill or recovering pets. Extras are subtracted from total kcal; blank extras contribute 0 but are explicitly unreviewed. If extras exceed 10% of the lower daily target, or equal/exceed it, food-portion conversion is withheld for veterinary review. This screening threshold is not a personalized treat allowance. Portions additionally require confirmed food suitability and actual label density. Grams = remaining kcal ÷ (kcal/kg ÷ 1000), or ÷ (kcal/100 g ÷ 100). Labeled servings = remaining kcal ÷ kcal per serving. Equal-meal values divide the unrounded daily amount by your entered meal count. Calories and grams display to 1 decimal; serving counts display to 2. No cup-to-gram conversion or homemade-diet formulation is done. Formula reference: AAHA energy calculations (PDF). Blank optional text is omitted. Missing numeric inputs and any arithmetic defaults are identified. Text is displayed literally, not interpreted as HTML. The tools do not fetch live vet prices, diagnose health issues, check medical records or replace a veterinarian. The plugin does not store your pet’s details or form inputs.
Results are estimates and general guidance only—not veterinary advice. Have health concerns checked with a vet. For urgent concerns, contact a vet or emergency veterinary clinic rather than using a planner.
Before you go
Should I change food based on this result?
Do not make a substantial feeding change solely from this estimate. Review the food label, all other calories and your pet’s needs with your vet. The tool cannot assess body condition or confirm a suitable diet.
Does this work for puppies, kittens or an unwell pet?
The automatic estimate does not. Those situations need individualized advice. If your vet has already supplied a daily target, the target route can perform limited label arithmetic without deciding the target itself.
Can I enter cups or mix several foods?
No cup-to-gram conversion is guessed, and one density applies to one food only. For mixed diets, therapeutic plans or unclear labels, ask your veterinary team for quantities. Never assume a cup is 100 grams.
Can I print the result, and are my pet’s details stored?
Print / Save PDF and Download text create copies you control. The plugin does not save inputs or results to a server, cookies or browser storage. Your browser may restore forms independently. Clear all resets the open page, but cannot erase downloaded files, printouts or browser autofill. Keep personal identifiers out of notes.
